Here’s the sad story of a 300 year old maple tree that was sitting in our back yard and hanging (dangerously) over our house.  It was approximately 100 feet tall, huge branches the size of most old, mature trees.  We had to cut it down, but the tree guys said they couldn’t go any lower because they didn’t have saws long enough (?).  Anyway they left this 7 feet tall, 13 feet in circumference stump.  What to do?  After three years, we decided to have a chainsaw sculptor come look at it and see what could be done.  The tree had lots of internal rot and “sponginess” (pre-rot) that had to be cut out.  Here is a pictorial of what we did and, hopefully, this will remain a memorial of our beautiful tree for many years to come.
